Meghan Henshaw is a herbalist, educator, and independent researcher with over a decade of experience studying medicinal plants at Cincinnati’s historic Lloyd Library, where she currently serves as a Lloyd Fellow. Passionate about making botanical knowledge accessible, Meghan founded a thriving medicinal garden classroom in the city’s Walnut Hills neighborhood, cultivating over 35 species of medicinal perennials just minutes from Memorial Hall.
Her journey with plants began in 2003 with an internship at Herb Pharm, followed by formal study at Dominion Herbal College, Bastyr University, and a Master of Science in Ethnobotany from the University of Kent. Meghan’s research has taken her across the globe, from studying traditional plant use in Morocco with the Global Diversity Foundation to exploring the quality and identification of Lavandula and Thymus species along the Moroccan supply chain. Her work bridges academic rigor with hands-on practice, blending fieldwork, education, and conservation.
Today, Meghan serves as an editor for the American Botanical Council, educates throughout the Midwest for Herb Pharm, and teaches a wide range of herbal classes both in person and online. She also crafts small-batch botanical products through her company, Ocotillo Herbals LLC, and maintains a thriving massage therapy practice in Cincinnati. Meghan’s work is rooted in a deep commitment to plant conservation, community education, and the celebration of traditional herbal knowledge.
