Elise Higley is a folk herbalist, wife, mother, grandmother and farmer.
With her background in Western Herbalism at California School of Herbal Studies and her husband Jeff’s background in organic farming they blended their dreams and created a full-fledged herb farm in 2013. Together they own and operate Oshala Farm. Oshala Farm is a 290 acre family run farm in Applegate Valley, Oregon with 80 plus medicinal herbs in cultivation. In her pastime, (10pm-5am) she works on agricultural advocacy as a board member of Our Family Farms, Rogue Valley Food System Network and represents a farmer’s voice on the board of AHPA, American Herbal Products Association.
Elise has been sharing her passion for growing high quality medincials for over a decade at numerous herbal gatherings and events nationally along with organizing and hosting an annual herb camp on her farm for the past 4 years. Sharing the as
Jeff Higley along with his wife Elise founded Oshala Farm in 2013. Together they grow more then eighty different medicinal and culinary herbs which they sell fresh and dried to a wide variety of wholesale and direct markets. Over the last 25 years Jeff has farmed vegetables in Southern California for CSAs, farmers’s markets and restaurants; has grown vanilla, kava, fruit, flowers and vegetables in Fiji for wholesale, resort and direct markets; and currently farms with his wife Elise at their 290 acre certified organic farm in the Applegate Valley of Oregon. Oshala specializes in producing and providing the highest quality certified organic botanicals. Working with producers of teas, tinctures, cosmetics, body products, nutraceuticals, pet food companies and many others, Oshala Farm provides product makers exceptional quality farm-direct botanicals that companies have come to depend on to meet their supply demands and their most stringent of specifications. Jeff also maintains a busy teaching schedule, teaching about growing herbs, drying and farm finance at Universities, conferences and events.
