Patrick cultivated a love for the outdoors from a young age, preferring to play in the woods instead of on the computer. His adventurous spirit has led him to live and work around the world. He studied Ecological Engineering at The Ohio State University, then went on to New Zealand to pursue his permaculture design certificate and a career in conservation land management. When he moved to Maui, he started his own business selling his hand-collected coconuts and other produce at local farmers markets. Later on, in Thailand and across Asia, he worked as a freelance outdoor educator for youth, teaching groups of middle and high school age students valuable interpersonal skills and the importance of the environment. As an active farmer and forager, he loves getting to know the plants local to wherever he is, and giving back to the land however he can.
As the current Sanctuary Steward at Heritage Acres Memorial Sanctuary, Patrick is the caretaker of a beautiful green burial ground on the east side of Cincinnati. There, he helps dig graves, officiate funerals, build hiking trails, install infrastructure, and maintain the grounds. He also leads regular volunteer work days where the vibrant volunteer community comes together to help tend the land. But his biggest passion at Heritage Acres lies in land restoration. Patrick has helped plant over 200 native trees, as well as 4 native herb and flower garden beds, improving the various ecosystems on site and restoring the biodiversity of the area. He knows firsthand the tangible positive impact humans can have when they commit to preserving the delicate balance of the ecosystem in which they are inherently intertwined.
