{"id":72801,"date":"2023-03-08T21:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-03-09T02:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.internationalherbsymposium.com\/online\/?post_type=courses&#038;p=72801"},"modified":"2023-10-19T09:53:43","modified_gmt":"2023-10-19T13:53:43","slug":"paul-strauss-the-ohio-herbal-elders-project","status":"publish","type":"courses","link":"https:\/\/www.internationalherbsymposium.com\/online\/courses\/paul-strauss-the-ohio-herbal-elders-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Paul Strauss: The Ohio Herbal Elders Project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.caledonianorthern.org\/#\/ohio-herbal-elders-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>Ohio Herbal Elders Project<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;is a dynamic collaborative oral history &amp; folklife project developed by oral historian &amp; documentary artist&nbsp;<strong>Jess Lamar Reece Holler<\/strong>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/caledonianorthern.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Caledonia Northern Folk Studios<\/a>,&nbsp;<strong>Lily Kunning<\/strong>&nbsp;of Central Ohio worker-owned herbalist co-operative&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.havenherbs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Haven Herbs<\/a>&nbsp;(originally as a part of her Sassafras Ohio statewide herbal gathering organizing efforts) and&nbsp;<strong>Susan Leopold<\/strong>, Executive Director of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/unitedplantsavers.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">United Plant Savers<\/a>&nbsp;in Meigs County, Ohio. The original project idea was developed by Lily Kunning in 2019; United Plant Savers served as the host organization for the project, &amp; Jess Lamar Reece Holler \/\/ Caledonia Northern Folk Studios served as project director, oral historian, &amp; media producer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2800<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ohio Herbal Elders Project seeks to document &amp; amplify the rich &amp; diverse cultural traditions, influences, educational systems, &amp; methods of transmission of Ohio\u2019s founding generation of 20th-century herbalists, and to document the rich flourishing of traditional plant medicine practices in our state \u2014 including through formal &amp; informal herbalist apprenticeship programs. Ohio Herbal Elders Project interviews, folklife documentation, &amp; media-rich pieces will be jointly displayed on the websites of&nbsp;Caledonia Northern Folk Studios, United Plant Savers, and Lily Kunning, Community Herbalist.
